Paul and I (Brandee) greatly appreciate the added visibility First light gives to our buses. We have several areas of roadways that have been problematic in the past and I am happy to report First Light Signs have reduced those problems!

We absolutely love the First Light signs. They have stopped a lot of red light runners for us. You can see them from far, far, far away. We will never get any buses without them. They blow away any other signs on the bus.

The more of the fleet that has them the better. I love having a more appropriate sign on the bulkhead of the bus. The old lighting is like putting a fish tank bulb on an ocean liner.

Hilliard City Schools has experienced a notable improvement in student transportation safety through the implementation of First Light safety products. We added the First Lights Signs for safety reasons. We started having cars pass our bus on one of our routes, so we added First Light to become more visible.

Since October 2023, South Kitsap School District has been gradually retrofitting our fleet with First Light (FL) Stop Arms and School Bus Signs. All new yearly bus purchases are now spec’d with this upfit. The increased visibility at night, during inclement weather and even during daylight is incredible, increasing safety for the students and helping to reduce stop paddle violations. I highly recommend these quality safety upgrades.

We love the way the buses look, we put the buses with First Light in all our high traffic areas and we have 5 new buses coming with the technology.

We recently upgraded some of our buses to the First Light stop arms. Upon seeing them for the first time, it was apparent that the visibility was far superior to the factory stop arms. Although we have only used them for a short time, they are better than any other stop arms we have used. Rittenhouse was founded in 1951 and today transports students in Franklin Township as well as Menallen Township for Uniontown SD. When we saw the Fully Illuminated Stop Arm, it only made sense. Most of our fleet is now equipped with them. We only keep a bus 5 years. My father, Rodger Rittenhouse, was an ex-air force aircraft mechanic, and we apply the same preventive measures to our fleet as if were maintaining aircraft. All our new buses will come from Thomas with First Light’s Fully Illuminated Stop Arms.

Over the summer, we choose to upfit a good portion of our fleet with FLSP products to stop the local redlight runners. We try do everything we can to get peoples attention. We have FLSP going on all our new bus orders with Leonard going forward.

The First Light signs really make a [school] bus stand out. When I see one of the buses with the First Light signs I can immediately tell it isn’t a garbage truck or piece of road equipment. At this point it really bothers me when I see buses without them. This should be the industry standard.

We provide student transportation services to two school districts in the beautiful Cache Valley of northern Utah. Winters can be difficult, with snow and temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees. When it does not snow, we experience a lot of fog, which is our most dangerous driving condition for picking up and dropping off students.

Several years ago, we installed strobe lights on the tops of our buses to help with visibility, so now all our buses have them. A year ago, a driver flew by one of our buses in the fog while the bus was loading students. If our driver had not trained her students not to cross the road until she gave the appropriate signal, we most likely would have had a tragedy.

We have begun installing First Light Safety’s lighted school bus signs and stop arms and have found that they truly increase the visibility of our school buses in dark, snowy, and foggy conditions. This is an effort to keep our students safe. We are very pleased with the product and appreciate that it can be installed at the factory or dealer level.

We purchased one full set on a single bus. After experiencing the install and seeing the results, we decided to have First Light products added into the spec’s for all of our new bus purchases. When we switched over to the FISA, the drivers noticed an immediate stopping of stop-arm violations. Before the FISA we used to have 2-3 stop-arm violations a week in the early mornings, now we are having none.

We’ve been real happy with the signs. We had an issue with one of the buses and the customer service came through and did a good job. I really like the new signs even better than the old signs because the illuminated material and reflective tape working in unison. If you did have a sign that actually went out and lost illumination because of the background and the reflective tape, you could still run those buses, you wouldn’t have to take them out of service. From an engineering standpoint I thought that was a major improvement.  

As far as working with us and getting us a new (replacement) sign, we’ve been happy with that. We’ve been real happy with First Light Safety. I think it’s a good product you have a lot of people working there and we’ve been happy with our customer service.  

We’re the only school system in the state that has these signs. Whenever we go somewhere people always ask us about it. When we met with the state during the summer for some of the spec committee stuff, everyone raved about our buses and the signage. I know Ward International that sells buses here locally, they’re based out of Mobil, they’re working with you guys. Whenever we order new buses, they come standard now and they have the ability to do that for any school system in Alabama. I think that Blue Bird also has the same ability now. I think you’re going to start seeing yourselves in Alabama really take off based on having these on our school buses. It’s a great advertisement for you. We’re a great testimonial because whenever we see somebody, and they ask about it we say that it’s probably the best thing they’ve done with school buses probably in 30 or 40 years.

I wanted something that would bring more immediate attention to students loading and unloading a school bus. The Fully Illuminated Stop Arm from First Light Safety Products does just that for us. I am pleasantly surprised with how much light these stop arms omit. Without a doubt these stop arms bring attention and visibility to our bus stops.

These are a great addition to making our school buses as visible as possible on the roadway. Our stop arm cameras are excellent in capturing people who pass our stopped bus, however, they are reactive. It really increases the visibility, and you can easily see it from half a mile away. It tells you the vehicle down the road you need to be aware of, and these signs make the yellow school bus even more visible.

The stop arms install was very easy just like the signs I have installed for years!

On a regular bus, you’re just going to get the flashing lights. You’re not going to get the signs that are lit up also… They can be seen from a mile away. One of the problems that we have are people that run our stop arms. Whether they don’t see them or they don’t understand the laws, or they just don’t care, that that happens daily and with these stop arms on here, there should be no excuse. 

After the accident a couple years ago, we decided that we’re going to do whatever we could to identify our buses and make it so people could distinguish between them and other vehicles on the road. The thing that really stuck with me was that the lady didn’t couldn’t identify the bus. So from that point on, we want to make sure that there’s no question that when our lights are flashing, that people can identify what we are from a long distance off.

I absolutely love the Illuminated Signage on the front and back of the bus and the stop arms that are now on my bus.  

From the very beginning, I saw an instant change in traffic flow. Traffic is no longer guessing what this big vehicle is coming down the road – is it the trash truck? Is it the county highway truck? They can see and tell, school bus. They can see the signage illuminated, like a marquee sign: ‘School bus.’ Traffic is slowing down sooner, they are stopping sooner, and holding further back when they stop, so there’s more room between them, the bus and the children getting on and off the bus. Immediately, I got feedback from the community where I drive my route. They said instantly they could see me coming half a mile or more down the road and knew, “It’s the school bus and I know she’ll be making a stop up here.” So they would slow down and hold back.  

These buses are equipped with so much technology that helps the driver ensure that they are driving more safely in their surroundings, so that the kids can be safe. But those tools are for me; they don’t affect the driving public, but these illuminated signs do, and I saw it from the very get-go. I told my director that I don’t want to drive a bus that does not have this illumination on it. I feel, from what I have seen and witnessed, that they should be mandatory on every bus.

I’m seeing a drastic change with this, especially in the dark of the morning, inclement weather, the visibility of seeing that bus coming down the road is just unbelievable. This is my honest opinion. I see so much benefit to these and such an impact. I also let our district superintendent, CFO, and president of the school board know. I’m hoping we can get some more of these and get them on our buses.

I noticed that when driving down a country road and following a commercial vehicle, you’re not sure what it is because they all have similar lights up top. You come up behind, thinking it’s a school bus and it’s a dump truck. With the Illuminated School Bus Sign, you can tell it is a school bus immediately. When motorists rush to work, they see the sign over a quarter mile away. They can clearly see it’s a school bus and take another route or just be patient.

I have the Illuminated School Bus Sign on the front and rear of 1 bus. I like the extra added safety I feel it provides. I would order any/all new buses with this product.

The visibility is impressive. With Howell being 65 square miles and very rural, this is a great product for drivers to see the bus in the early mornings and winter evenings. With First Light’s FISA, stop arm violations have stayed low in comparison to the year prior. We are a month and a half into school, and just last week, we had our first violation on a First Light bus. Last year we had several violations by now.

Best thing I ever had put on our buses. I still say they are the most visible buses on the road, they can be seen thousands and thousands of feet away. Everyone that sees them says ‘wow you now know that it is a school bus’.

I love how bright they are.  And wow what a difference it makes when you see two buses together when one has the signs and one doesn’t.

I think it’s a great product, it’s noticeable from quite a distance. Since we’ve put it on the bus, we haven’t heard anything from the bus drivers having stop arm violations. The drivers have said nothing but great things about them. Cars are being alerted from a further distance so they’re not encroaching on the bus. I really notice the difference – you can see and read the school bus sign a 1/2 mile away. If you don’t know it’s a school bus there is something wrong.

The illuminated stop sign and school bus sign were added to 2 of our buses with the highest number of stop arm violations. The buses we chose not only experienced the highest number of stop arm violations but were also rural routes with multilane roads. The roads are extremely busy and are early morning routes when the sun has not risen yet. Since the systems were installed the violations have been cut in half. The systems allow drivers to see the bus earlier than prior to the systems being on the buses. I believe this leads to increased safety of our riders and students while boarding and exiting the bus.

We’re a rural district with four heavily travelled state highways, two heavily travelled federal highways, and regular fog. I’m always looking at new ideas to help grab motorists’ attention. In our weather that’s foggy, rainy, and dark during most of the school year, these Fully Illuminated Stop Arms really stick out and are much more visible than the old stickers and lights we used to use. We’re excited to add more of these to our fleet!

I believe that both the Illuminated School Bus signs and the Illuminated Stop Arm signs are great tools to keep your students safer while riding the bus (especially while loading and unloading). We really have had success with both products, and now order them for inclusion when ordering any new buses.

The Fully Illuminated Stop Arms are very attention-grabbing and easy to install! Seeing them lit up in the morning is like watching a parade of lights. We have added them to 44 of our special needs buses and could not be happier with the results.

At Boerne ISD, we are passionate about our student safety and are constantly on the lookout for innovations that enhance our operations. We put out our new bus in the Christmas Parade tonight and we showed off our First Light signs! In the last 25 years this is one of the best products I have seen implemented for school buses.

In a growing district like ours with more and more traffic, we needed something more eye-catching, and this is it! On our rural routes, the Illuminated School Bus Sign and Fully Illuminated Stop Arm are essential for alerting oncoming motorists from the furthest distance possible, in all weather conditions.

Install was easy. It helps the motorists see our school bus at a greater distance, especially on our highway route.

We are located close to the border and have a high volume of traffic from 18-wheelers. I have heard from the truck drivers that they see our school buses ahead of time thanks to the ISBS. As a result, First Light Safety offered to assist our district by piloting Fully Illuminated Stop Arm signs to assess their effectiveness. We’ve been trying illuminated signs on the buses, and I can confirm that the difference is striking. These fully lit signs are much more visible, especially on darker days like the ones we’ve had recently. The improvement is significant and makes a huge difference.

Ever since I put these First Light signs on the buses, we have seen a noticeable difference on our routes. It is really hard to miss a bus now at night or in the early morning with these signs.

The big reason I decided to switch to First Light signs was in the interest of student safety. We have many vehicles running our reds almost on a daily basis.
